Shrewsbury Masters New Year Gala 2014 - Results

Stroud Masters swimmers kicked off 2014 with a trip to Shrewsbury in Shropshire. A team of six travelled to compete at the Shrewsbury Masters New Year Gala which unlike the majority of competitions allows swimmers to only enter one event in each of the four strokes from a choice of three distances, and also an individual medley. Swimmers gain points for each event entered which are then added together and result in an overall age group placing.

Kelly Young at the Transplant Games 2013

Kelly Young a Stroud Master member has just returned from two major sporting events, 19 years on from a life-saving liver transplant that she received at the age of 8 months, on 10 August 1994. Kelly competed in Durban, South Africa at the World Transplant Games, which ran from July 28 to August 4. Representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Kelly competed in 5 individual swimming events, and two relays. She returned with five medals: one gold (Ladies IM relay), three silver (50m fly, 50m backstroke, 200m Individual Medley) and one bronze (50m freestyle).

The Big Cotswold Swim - July 2013

A team of four Stroud Masters recently took part in the locally organised Tri Ferris open water swim at South Cerney. Over 100 swimmers took to the water in the 1 mile distance where Lorraine Savagar set a good pace to finish 4th overall and 1st in her age group. She was closely followed by Richard Smith who finished in 5th place, also winning his age group. They were joined by triathlete Simon Offord who took 42nd position.

Gloucs County 2km Open Water Champs Henleaze Lake Bristol - 14th July 2013

A team of five Stroud Masters swimmers travelled to Henleaze Lake in Bristol for the annual Gloucestershire County Open Water Championships. Mark Partridge, Jessica Wooddisse, Geoff Twinning, Lorraine Savagar, Sean Kinsey Each member of the team competed in the 2000 metre race in which competitors are not permitted to wear wetsuits. Geoff Twinning and Jessica Wooddisse both put in exceptionally strong swims to finish as Mens and Ladies Champions respectively, with Geoff just pipping Bristol based rival Peter Gleed to finish in first place overall.

Henley Classic – Henley on Thames 30th June 2013

The Henley Royal Regatta Course provided the venue for the latest open water competition for Stroud Masters swimmers. Lorraine Savagar, Mark Partridge, Jessica Wooddisse Jessica, Lorraine and Mark left Stroud in the early hours of the last day of June to make the 4.30 am start of the Henley Classic, a 2.1 km iconic sunrise swim along one of the most famous and beautiful stretches of the River Thames. With almost eight hundred wet-suited and non suited swimmers taking part this is one of the largest and most popular events of the open water calendar catering for a range of swimming abilities from novice to elite.

Dorney Lake Open Water Swim - 27th May 2013

A small team from Stroud Masters competed in their first open water race of the year at Dorney Lake near Windsor. Jessica Wooddisse, Mark Partridge, Lorraine Savagar The cool waters of Olympic boating lake played host to over one thousand competitors with five events on offer ranging from 750m to 10km. Jessica Wooddisse and Mark Partridge both competed in the 3km race with Wooddisse finishing as first lady and in 5th place overall out of over 300 competitors whilst Partridge finished in a very creditable 13th position.
